As a British citizen married to a foreign national I was shocked to discover that the government treat EEA citizens better than their own.

My wife is required to either pay £460 for a two year extension to her Leave to remain. Or she can pass a test on her knowledge of English and the life here and then pay almost £1000 to live her indefinitely.

Meanwhile a friend of mine (A Brazilian with an Italian passport) lives here with her husband. He does not speak English or have any understanding of "Life in Britain" yet he gets a free visa that has to be renewed every six months.

How is this fair?
