I passed ‘life in the UK’ test yesterday. Test was very easy.

My family and friends are asking me, what benefits am I going to get if I will get the UK Citizenship?” I can not answer this question, as I don’t have any idea at all.

I got married and came to London in June 2003. I am on ‘indefinite leave’ visa at present. The only benefit I can see is I won’t need visa permission if I would visit any European country. But if I want to go to India, I will need visa permission.

By the way, I have never claimed any benefits, and do not intend to do that in future.

Hi Kinnari,

1. With British Citizenship, you can not only visit but also work anywhere in Europe.

2. With your ILR or PR, you cannot be out of the country (UK) for more than 2 years.

3. To visit India, you will not require visa if you get OCI (or PIO) card. OCI is better than PIO so everyone applying now will go for OCI.

A small note, after 5 years of getting OCI you can get your Indian citizenship back. So a Dual Citizenship in the true sense.

Hope that answers your questions. Feel free to ask more.
