if your wife completed the tanure of residencey in the uk to apply for ILR, and you are on depandent visa, you need to pass the life in the uk test to get ILR alongwith your wife.

thanks

As far as I know, there is no expiry date for "Life in The UK" test and never has been. So if you want to take the test now, you can.

Anyone who is applying for Nationality or ILR must have evidence of passing the Test, so to answer your question - YES, you do need to do that. Sorry no loop holes there to avoid it.
