I think the terrorist threat is very real and I also think that I would feel more secure boarding a plane if rigorous checks had been carried out but I understand what you mean, perhaps the strict checking of baggage can also alarm some people as it makes them aware of possible terrorist activities.
I am scared of take off and landing at the best of times. I hate sitting over the wing as I can hear all the engine and landing gear noises. I practically have a heart attack every time I fly, especially since the time we took off during a thunderstorm and it was very turbulent, we lost contact with the tower for 15 mins or so and the Captain didn't sound very calm on the intercom. We lost an engine after a lightening strike. I thought I would never fly again, then I went to Australia. Now that's a long flight! If it wasn't for the free drink I would have been a nervous wreck.
Was planning on going to Chicago sometime to visit my cousin that I haven't seen for years, maybe I will put it off for a while till all calms down.
Americans think they are the best, actually they don't have a lot of money. As far as I know the country has a huge deficit. They rely on oil !!!
