what kind of fine are you talking about ??? like a traffic over speeding fine £60 pluse 3 points on your licence for three years.... is that the fine you have?

If the letter actually gave a specific date when you are welcome to re-apply, this suggests that you should be on relatively safe ground in meeting the good character requirements. The Home Office can be very annoying about these things; but I don't think they'd tell you to re-apply and spend your £650 if they thought an application after that date was likely to fail. If that was your only problem, and all else was o.k., it's probably worth a go, now that you've reached the clear time.

A fine as a punishment for a proper conviction is clear after 2 years. (NB to the other poster - most speeding fines are fixed penalties, not convictions.)

Thanks for all your replies. The actual offence was drink-driving and I was banned for 15 months and fine £200. The baneed has elapsed since last year november and the fine is now over 2 years ago. What do you think of my chance?

Any one in the forum who has succeeded in re-applying for naturalisation after the first application was turn down on character ground (unspent convictions for court fines and the clear period has not elapsed) I reapply after 2 years of the fine been imposed via the nationality checking services and just been curious as to the success of my application this time around. the refusal letter indicated that i am welcome to apply after 10/09/2007 been the second year of my fine. any suggestion and opinions is welcome. many thanks
