This is beyond my knowledge because I am not sure how they handle the Out of Country base.  You should actually write them an email. I always thought you need to have residency in UK and also after citizenship your intent is to live in the UK(Many people might have different circumstances, like me). I have no knowledge on EU or Military options.  P Pron was expert on some of these but I have not seen his post in a while.

If you go to Home Office Web site, please email them or contact the British embassy/consulate in Germany.  If they cannot help, they will definitely be able to guide you properly.

Don't make any plans for UK to take the test. You can practice on the iNternet and be ready in case you need it in future.

You will I believe qualify because your application will be based on the fact that your husband is in the army (crown service). This is why you cannot live in the UK and qualify under the residency rules.

As far as I know they can arrange for the test and ceremony to be taken in the relevant embassy but the embassy in question will know that answer, it is just probable that they haven't had alot of enquiries about it and need to find out.

I would also advise contacting the helpline number from Germany and you will definately get an answer.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply guys.

I know im entitled to it as its due the the nature of my husbands job that we are in Germany. I lived in the Uk for over five years and might return in a few years.

I will follow your advice and contact them again to find out before i go around booking flights.

Thanks again :)

I am German and have been married to my British husband, who is in the British Army, for 6 years.

We are currently based in Germany. I have spoken to several people at the British Embassy and noone really seemed to know what the score was but apparently I'm supposed to fly out to Britain to take the test. Obvioulsy this will result in more expense and some difficulty, especially if I dont pass the test for some reason as im gonna have to wait 7 days before I can re-take it!

So i was wondering if anyone else knows if this really is the case or if there is another way, especially for people who are attached to the British Army and are based abroad.

I'd really appreciate any advise you guys could give me, thanks :)
