Since 1 January 2004 all adults wishing to become British citizens in the United Kingdom have been required to attend a citizenship ceremony as the final stage in the process. Citizenship ceremonies in the United Kingdom are conducted on behalf of the Home Office by Registrars in local areas. For those who are abroad, the citizenship ceremony will be conducted by the British Diplomatic Post in the country where the person lives.
