Hi

As per the Life in the UK Test Web Site the following will happen before the test:

What will happen when I arrive at the test centre?
On arrival at your test centre, the test supervisor will record your full name, date of birth, nationality, country and place of birth, and your postcode. Your photographic ID will be checked and you will have to pay for your test (unless you have paid for it previously). You will then be logged on to a computer and will have time to complete a practice test on your computer before you begin the Life in the UK Test. The test supervisor will tell you when to begin your test and how long you have to complete it.

For identiy requirements:

Are there any identification requirements?
Yes, you need to bring photographic ID with you to your test centre to present to the test supervisor. You must bring one of the following forms of ID (please note photos on all documents must be a true likeness of you for them to be accepted):

  • a passport (from your country of origin)
  • a UK photocard driving licence, full or provisional
  • one of the following Home Office travel documents: a Convention Travel Document (CTD), a Certificate of Identity Document (CID) or a Stateless Person Document (SPD)
  • an Immigration Status Document, endorsed with a UK Residence Permit and bearing a photo of the holder

You will also be asked for your postcode at the test centre, so you may wish to bring along something that contains this information.

Post code can only be found on something that has your name and address, ideally you can use if you have the UK Driving Licence (Even provisional would work) that has your photograph and address. Then you don't need to carry your passport with you. If you don't have UK Driving Licence then you need to carry a Photo Identity (Passport) and Proof of Address (recent bill, bank statement, credit card statement) in your name.

Hope this helps and all the best for your exam.

Cheers

After getting the wrong date for my test. I did it today and passed first time. My success is mostly down to this ingenious site which give an efficient and practical preparation for this test. Praise and thanks to those running the site.

General Preparation Advice:

Remember your ID and if your address is not already on your ID, proof of your current address. Someone got turned away because of this today.

If you are practising the quizzes on this site you already have an edge in understanding how the test works i.e. navigation etc. Do them over and over until you feel comfortable.

I do not think it is possible to do this test without studying thoroughly even though you have lived here for a long time and have fully participated in the life of this country. Frankly most of my British friends could not answer the material in the book.

Having said that, it has been good to focus on aspects of life in the UK in a specific way and it brings a sense of achievement to have passed. In this respect I can see why the government has instituted this exam_ to make each person feel that they have done something special towards obtaining citizenship here.
