Hello Peter:

This all depends on you.  I can only give you some general guidelines and common sense approach as I do not know your native country. For US, they allow it as long as you want to keep it. They will ask you a question when applying for your next passport and you have to certify it by your answer and the officer will allow it.  I am a US Citizen and if  I say I want to keep bot then they will allow it. So it really depends on you .  Some country allow Dual Nationality and some don't.  Recently India changed its stand on Dual Nationality but previously it Indian nationality will be revoked as soon as you get another nationality.  UK and USA do not report to the other countries if naturalised citizen is taking up on UK or US citizenship. I am not sure about your country, if they keep tab on their citizens and what they are up to.  Most likely government do not have that much time or resources to keep track of it.

I don't know where you are from but on the home page of this site, is a list of countries that allow Dual Nationality.  If you want to hide you can hide it  but what happens if you are carrying a British Passport and they found out during the custom process. Some of these countries can put you in jail and also imprisoned you for long time. Try to get all the information before you apply or take oath as a British Citizen.

If you still have any doubts, please ask me specific question and let meknow which country.

Hi Peter,

I don't really understand what advantage will you get by hiding your British Citizenship.

You can enter your home country on your home country passport and then I guess you will want to exit on  your home country passport with the ILR stamp on it.

Also, if your home country passport expires, I understand you need to sign an undertaking that you have not taken citizenship of another country (if your home country does not support full dual citizenship) and you may be asked to produce a letter from the Home Office.

Your call mate.

Cheers

Navneet

Hi,

I am just wondering, does anybody know, whether on taking the second nationality, the original country's government gets aware of that or not?

I mean, can someone hide his new nationality from the government of his original country, as long as he uses his original passport entering that country and e.g. British passport entering elsewhere?

I am lucky as I have Italian and Argentinean citizenships already.

I checked with Italy and they don't have any issues with me becoming British

Itaky and Argentian have dual citizenschip aggreement. As a native born argentinean I can't even renounce to being an Argie, but when becoming British my civic rights become frozen, but I still will be allowed to enter and leave Argentina on a British Passport within 90 days, I always enter and leave Argentina on my Italian Passport, they don't particularly like it, but nothing they can do about it.

To be honest I could not care less what the argentinean government thinks.
