As the test results are valid for an indifinite period, I cannot see why someone would ask you to take the test again. You only need to pass it once.

Cool! :O)  I was told that but I wasn't sure!

You say is valid for an indeffinate period?  So, if I pass and am given the letter which I intent to attach to my Indeffinate Leave to Remain this April, I can re-attach that same letter to my Citizenship application next April (2008) when I apply for Naturalization?  I am married to a British Citizen. I am from the United States, born and bread there and can speak and write English and Spanish fluently.

Thanks for your reply!

You should send the original pass letter with your ILR application. When you are ready to apply for naturalisation just tick the relevant box on your application form to say you have already passed the test. They have your file so you should not need to send the copy of the pass letter.

I don't see any explanation from the Home Office if they will accept your test results of previous test.(Currently in place).  You application is due after April 2 so I see no reason with your credential to take the test now. REMEMBER! Home office has the last words regarding this so if you take the test you are assuming that test will be accepted after April for ILR.

I think everyone should read this site FAQ
http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applying/nationality/knowledgeoflifeintheuk

DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING BECAUSE HOME OFFICE WILL REVISED THE TEST COME APRIL. They might make it easier so if you are due for ILR or nationality later, I will Wait  for the new test.

One thing you mentioned about attaching results, remember you get only one result page and home office only accepts original so attaching it twice is not possible.

My comments are based on common sense and I might be wrong but that is what Home Offic eis saying now. When I see differently I will change my tune too.

Good luck

I phoned the Life in the United Kingdom Helpline at 0800 0154245 and inquired when could I take the test and they told me and my husband that it doesn't matter when you take the test but that you pass. One reason that I'm taking it next week is if I fail I have the option of re-taking it again.

They do accept the test results as long as you pass it once. The new FORM AN is revised so that you can indicate that you have already passed the test and you do not need to attach the pass letter.

Having said that, it is advised you keep a copy to yourself, just in case.

Will I have to re-take the Life in the UK test a second time if I apply for Citizenship after  I take it for my ILR application and pass the test?

I'm taking the test this week as the new conditions for Indeffinate Leave To Remain application.  I was wondering if I would have to re-take the test later if I passed the first time to apply for Indeffinate Leave to Remain.

Thank You

Mrs Aris
