No need to transfer to the new passport - just carry both - it is perfectly acceptable. Scroll down to the very bottom of this page http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applying/applicationforms/ - the penultimate paragraph covers it!

Hi my passport is expiring this month. I got my ILR status in Jan 2006. I am getting a new passport. Although I will get back my old passport, do I need to transfer the ILR stamp in new passport? Other thing is I am going to my native country in December and coming back in 1st week of Jan 2007. I will apply for naturalisation in 3rd week of Jan 2007.
