Hi M Jain

The home office will ask for proof of employment without which it will make it difficult. You see, from their perspective, they will give ILR to people who are not a burden on their system. Your wife is now your dependent but they are likely to frown on the fact that she is now unemployed. Your wife maybe better off appearing in person , this does cost more but also you get the decision on the same day. If they do not give ILR, they will not charge anything. This is how I did it but my circumstances were different.

Hope this helps

Dear Rahul,

thanks for the reply, i am afraid you understood my question wrongly. She has got ILR in 2004, we are looking for the citizenship now. She full fill all the requirements from the Home Office except she is not working anywhere at the moment because of the young family. So my question is that if she apply alone (as i was away from UK > 90 days in this year) will she get the citizenship?

Hi M Jain

In that case she should get citizenship. Make sure she applies for the young one/s as well under category A in MN1 form for minors.

All the best

My spouse is a dependent and she is applying for the Naturalisation after her 5 years legal stay in UK . She fulfill all the criteria which are required by the Home Office (i.e. completed one year ILR, in 5 years she was not away > = 450 days in this year she was not away from UK >=90 days etc) She has also passed her Life in UK exam. I am not a UK citizen and can not apply along with her as I was not in UK for > 90 days in this year. I wonder if she is dependent will she get the Naturalisation from the Home Office because she is not working anywhere although she fulfill all the criteria which is required
