I came to the UK in April 2003 on a 5 year work permit visa.

I got married to a British citizen in 2007 and applied for an FLR (Further Leave to Remain) which expires in 2009.

My 5 years in the UK have already been completed.

I would like to know if my 5 years count towards applying for a British passport? If so, can I apply now?

Or do I have to wait until 2009 to apply for an ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) and then follow the process as a spouse dependant.

Please advise, any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Hello,

Once you have finished your 5-year stay in the UK, you can apply for the ILR.
once you get ILR, you need to stay another year with that status. After one year gone from the first ILR stamp, you can apply for British Nationality.

Good luck
