hi there

it sounds very interesting what you are doing.

If i were to talk in your movie I would say how I am not happy on how british born citizens have to take this test.

I had to take this test because my parents applied nationality in this country after my birth so it sucks!

Hi John,

It is very interesting. I came to Britain in 1998 went back and came again in 1999 and again in 2000. I have been here from 2000 till now. I applied for nAturalisation only recently, as my twins were born here and they get straight away british citizen. So we just wanted to be indentified as British citizen as a whole family.

It is very annoying to know that some of my colleagues could not answer even a simple question in the test. A true British

Dear Life in the UK Users,

My name is John Joe Bardsley and I am an documentary filmmaker with over 10 years of professional experience working for Britain’s leading broadcasters and production companies. I am currently developing a project that looks at the construction of British national identity and how this has been affected by immigration.

I myself think that an increasingly multicultural society has been a very positive thing for Britain. Thanks to immigrants, I speak Spanish and Portuguese, eat a mixed Caribbean, Middle Eastern diet and have numerous friends from Africa, Asia and South America.

I am very interested in speaking to people who will be undertaking the Life in the UK test and are embarking on the process of applying for British citizenship. Initially this would just be for a brief conversation, but possibly with a view to filming in the future.

I want to make a film which exams not only the work that you do in taking this test and the ceremony, but also the construction of British national identity and how immigrants have shaped this construction. Clearly all contact will be on a very confidential basis and I appreciate that gaining your citizenship is of great importance.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

John Joe Bardsley
