Hi Clarissa:

You did not mention where you are located. Home office list NCS services offices below.  Please use this service for your application. My passport came back after two month but National Checking Service (NCS) will return your passport at the same time. They charge around £30-40.  Definitely use them. Eventhough Home office also state that you can make copies certify them from a solicitor and send with aplication but I strongly recommend NCS.

http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ind/en/home/applying/british_nationality/nationality_checking.html

The
Nationality Checking Service is a partnership between the Home Office
Immigration & Nationality Directorate and local councils in England
and Wales. It allows those people applying for British citizenship to
make their applications, in person, at their local council offices. For
a small fee,
participating councils will check that applications
are completed correctly and have been submitted with all the necessary
supporting documents and the correct fee. They will photocopy and
certify valuable documents such as passports and will send the
applications to the Home Office by special delivery post. Complete
applications can be dealt with more quickly than those that are
incomplete. Those using the service will be able to keep their
passports rather than sending them to the Home

i just want to know if i am allowed to send a photocopy of my passport with my application for citizenship instead of sending my passport because i am planning to travel within the next 2-3 months, if so where do i have to go to have it certified? do i have to go to NSC or any solicitor can do it? and if any solicitor can do it for me will it be accepted by the home office ?

thanks ...

Hi Clarissa you asked:

"
thanks for the immediate response.I live in Wales and I tried to
locate an NCS office here but to no avail. Can you suggest a place where
i can find one?is there one in London?does it matter if i go to an NCS
office outside Wales?is there a need to book an appointment to see them?"

This is a very good question and I am replying it here so others can add to the answer if they have a solution.

I am not familiar with Wales area but try one
of the Council/City services and they may have a solution for your
question. Look for Citizen Advisory Beureau (CAB)or you can also e-mail
Nationality Division of Home Office to ask if they provide any
services. Check at the bottom of the link I provided earlier and they
have listed many offices.  They have several offices in London
Area.

Second
part of your question is easy and I don't think it matters where you go
to apply as they are in partnership with Home Office. You can go to
your nearest city or Liverpool, where they have the Nationality
Section.  Please e-mail them with your question a

nationalityenquiries@ind.homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

When you receive the answer please post it here.  They take their
sweet time to reply.  If you ar ein a hurry, you might want to
call them at

Hope this helps
