My passport has recently been lost so i was unable to send it with my naturalisation application. I am a student currently not in employment so i had  trouble finding letters covering a 5 year period. i only sent 2 or so letters from educational establishments and i was just wondering if this would have negative implications on my apllication. any advice would be much appreciated.

Passport control whenever you enter the Uk will have kept a record of your coming in. So that bit won't be  aproblem as there is a part of the application that lets you say why you are not sending your passport. Do you not have utility bills or a landlords tenancy agreement or anything else that shows you have been living here for the residency requirements. They may get back in touch with you for further information . As long as you can obtain proof of continued residency for the number of years residency required in your category ,you should be okay.

The residency requirements ar different for each category.
