Hi,
I am currently in the UK on what was known as a work permit. I have been in the UK for 4 years and 4 months. 4 months ago I got married to a British citizen and want to change my visa status to the marriage visa. My question is: will changing the visa type affect applying for IRL after being in the UK for 5 years?

Yes it will. Once you change to marriage visa, you can then apply for ILR only after 2 years from the date your marriage visa is granted.
You cannot club together time spent on work permit and marriage visa and apply for ILR.
