I honestly think that test is so easy that anyone with average knowledge of English language can prepare for it in 8 hours or less. Question is does it make you more British then others who became citizen before you, I guess not. This is just another obstacle that Home Office was able to force on to people who wants to become Citizen. I don't know what was behind it, was it the money that you pay for the test or soemthing else.  I also think that it is too high. If they were interested in providing knowledge it shoud be less then 10 pounds.

Once you take this test there is really no guarantee that you will remember the material or if you will be able to use it in future for any constructive purpose. Test is just one thing in many others that you have to comply for citizenship. In my honest opinion test does not have anything that will make me more British because all material can be found if soemone really needed it through Libraries and on the Internet.

I have lived here for 30 years and have been at scool here from the 2nd form upwards. I have a daughter who is British, yet because I did not think it to be important to have a British Passport because it was quite easy to get visas. I now have to go through this all.

Waheed is correct. This is their (The Home Office) way of trying to give new rules to intergrate us, yet this is not taught in schools. Although they are now thinking about it.

Like you I asked people in my office some of the questions & they did not know the answers. Do not dwell on these issues, you just want an end result like the rest of us, so study, pass the test and in future you can feel proud that you know more than "the natives"! In this yes, the test is worth it.

I do'nt think its worth it, but you have to do it.

I am working as a research officer in a well known organization, even worked on Home office research projects, dealing with public, and providing them help and info., I find it waste of time, as well as,money, as Waheed says, it is 100% true.

You can replace it with something worthy enough to add in to culture, economy or any other measures so that you can challange certain things, which cause drastic problems later on, because dealing with public is the most sensitive phenomenon.

Yes, I fully agree that it doesn't take too long to prepare and pass the test.  But I personally think that anything that has been imposed upon against the wish or doesn't carry any significance, is done mechanically and raises much higher level of ill talking or criticism.

Anyway, we need to do it so all of us wanting to get the citizenship will have to do it.  But I think that we are the best judge to point it to Home Office that this doesn't make the life different than any other British Citizen who haven't gone through this test.

It is possible that Home Office may take it off if their intension is ONLY to make people aware of "THE LIFE IN UK" !!!

I am working in a Blue Chip company where there are so many British people working around me.  They are all born and brought up here.  But none of them has been able to answer 2 out of 5 questions correctly !!!

Even they think that this is not required at all to grant citizenship ?  Any more ideas are welcome.
