Whoever has told you that must be out of his/ her senses. Sorry to be a bit rude here but I don't see how can someone suggest that!! There are limitations of staying outside if you have ILR. A British Citizen can migrate to any other country (say to Australia) without losing their British Citizenship. There is no limitations about where to stay !!
From your name it sounds like you are going back to India. And if your husband is in the IT industry then he must have been here during the Y2K era. Economy in India is booming & there are many British born people working in India now.
If you have OIC card, you can regain your Indian passport after 5 years.
