hi
I`m Polish national, have permanent resident card, what`s the benefits in becoming British citizen apart from voting in general election?
I`m asking because naturalization is expensive and I`m not sure if there is point doing it.
Thanks in advance

If it doesn't mean anything to you I wouldn't bother. But I think that permanent residence is only valid for 10 years (despite the name) so I should definitely seek indefinite leave to remain.

Citizenship matters for public service jobs and of course voting in general elections/standing for parliament. Not being a citizen after having been here for 23 years means that I definitely feel excluded. My personal advice is to do it if you can, and if you intend to settle in the UK.
