I came to the UK in April 2003 on a 5 year work permit visa.

I got married to a British citizen in 2007 and applied for an FLR (Further Leave to Remain) which expires in July  2009.

My 5 years in the UK have already been completed.

I would like to know if my 5 years count towards applying for a British passport? If so, can I apply now?

Or do I have to wait until 2009 to apply for an ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) and then follow the process as a spouse dependant.

Please advise, any information would be helpful.

Thanks

You must apply for indefinite Leave to Remain in UK then you have to wait for 12 months before applying for naturalisation as a British citizen.
