I suppose she can do it either way. But i suggest to apply through marriage if the basis of coming here is through marriage as well. Just FYI, being married to a British national allows the spouse to be eligible for citizenship after 3 years in the UK so there's no need to wait for 5 yrs. Anyway of course it is up to the individual if he/she wants to be a citizen.

My wife got Permanent residency two years ago. And now in july, she is completing 5 years of stay in UK. She is working also. Can she apply cetizenship on her own? or will it be better to apply on marriage basis as i am already a british national.
